We are asked the same two questions more than any other. What is the difference between an eau de parfum and a parfum? And which one should I wear tonight?
The textbook answer is concentration. Perfume is fragrance oil carried in alcohol, and the name on the bottle tells you roughly how much oil is inside. An eau de toilette usually sits between five and fifteen percent. An eau de parfum, around fifteen to twenty. A parfum, twenty and above. More oil, more depth, more hours on skin. That is the rule most houses follow and most articles repeat.
We do not follow it. Every Santi Peccatori bottle is composed at 25%, day or night. We refused to make the daytime line the weaker sibling. So in our house, the difference between SANTI and PECCATORI is not strength. It is character.
What changes between day and night
Daylight is honest. The office, the club, the court or the studio, a lunch that runs long. Scent by day works at arm's length. It should be noticed by the person who leans in, and remembered after they leave.
Night is different. Rooms are warmer and people stand closer. A fragrance after dark can afford to be deeper, because the evening is already doing half the work.
So the two lines are built from different materials.
SANTI is composed for the day. Immortali Santi opens on a champagne accord, Italian bergamot and blood orange before settling into Indian Tuberose and jasmine. Dominanti Santi sets Calabrian bergamot and pink pepper against a salted skin accord, then crème brûlée, tonka and orange blossom. Both are luminous. Both hold their shape from morning into evening without taking over a room. They come in 100 ml, because a daytime signature is worn every day.
PECCATORI is composed for the night. Amori Peccatori moves from grapefruit and pink pepper into orris, tonka and animalic notes, drying down to patchouli and black musks. Devoti Peccatori is cocoa, ambergris and tonka over sandalwood and vanilla. Both are built on denser materials that sit closer to the skin and reveal more as the night goes on. They are also the rarest and most costly materials in the collection, which is why a PECCATORI costs more in half the size. They come as Parfum, in 50 ml, because nights are fewer. They should be.
How to wear them
Wear SANTI before you dress. Two or three sprays, on the chest and the back of the neck. The day moves you around. Let the scent move with you.
Wear PECCATORI later, closer to the moment. One spray at the base of the throat, one on the wrist. At night, restraint reads as confidence.
Do not rub your wrists together. It warms and bruises the top notes before they have had their say.
Heat changes everything. On a warm day, SANTI travels further and fades sooner. On a cold night, PECCATORI takes longer to open and stays longer once it has.
Why not just one?
Because nobody is one thing all day. The person who leads the meeting at ten is not the person who stays for one more glass at midnight. Both are true. We built a house on that idea, so we built two lines to carry it. Our founder was told to choose one side, once. He built a house on the refusal.
If you have never worn either, begin with the Discovery Kit. Four fragrances, 3 ml each. Wear a SANTI through a full day and a PECCATORI through a full night before you decide. The €49 is redeemed against your first full size bottle.
